Sulfur gasses from Chinese-made drywall has created a nightmare for thousands
of homeowners, and government officials now admit that it can trigger respiratory problems, corrode
wiring, and cause refrigerators, air conditioners and other electronic products to fail. The Consumer Product
Safety Commission says the only way to fix the problem is to remove all drywall and wiring from the house. But who
will pay?
HOT COMMENTARY: Tainted drywall is a difficult and
expensive problem with much finger pointing but little accountability or relief for homeowners. Manufacturers
selling tainted drywall got paid for it. Suppliers made money from the sale to builders and general contractors,
who then profitted from the construction and home sale. Realtors made commissions. Insurance companies told
policies that excluded Chinese Drywall. And lenders still insistent that mortgage payments are on made on time. So
why is the homeowner forced to sue for damages while the others take their money and run? This problem is
destroying the American Dream for many families.
