Speaking Out: Texas Builder magazine talks with State Representative Ruth Jones McClendon |
| |
|
A little flattery and a lot of cash goes a long way in Texas politics. |
Texas Builder magazine published a 5-page interview with Representative Ruth Jones McClendon (D-San Antonio)
that's not available online. But we found a printed copy of "Talking with State Representative Ruth Jones McClendon" and post it here with
our comments below.
McClendon served on the Texas Sunset Commission, which
decided to extend the life of the Texas Residential Construction Commission, going against the advice of its own staff and the overwhelming public
outcry.
McClendon sponsored a Sunset bill that extended the TRCC for four more
years, and a House committee substitute version extended it for six. When introducing the bill, she
said, “This is not a bill that builders love.”
That's either naive or misleading since the “reforms” in this builder-written
bill amount to window dressing concessions with little real impact. Provisions hidden deep inside are
intentionally deceptive and designed to “look consumer-friendly” while continuing to protect home
builders.
